NETStandard.Library — vendored NuGet packages =============================================== What this is ------------- Every netstandard2.0 project (Azimuth, and any other SDK-style module) needs NETStandard.Library at restore time — it's the compile-time reference-assembly contract for the netstandard2.0 surface, not a runtime. Modules\NuGet.config used to map it to the "vs-offline" source (the VS-bundled offline NuGet feed), but that feed genuinely does not carry this package on this machine — it never has. A checkout whose Junk\NuGet cache still happens to hold an old resolved copy builds fine and never notices; a fresh checkout (or one that's had Junk wiped by CleanTemporaryFiles.bat) hits NU1101 "Unable to find package NETStandard.Library" on every SDK-style project, including ones that don't otherwise touch it, since Directory.Build.props pulls it in tree-wide. Microsoft.NETCore.Platforms is vendored alongside it because NETStandard.Library 2.0.0 declares it as a direct dependency (see its .nuspec), so it hits the exact same "vs-offline claims to have it, doesn't" gap. Despite sounding foundational, both are small: NETStandard.Library is ~65 reference-assembly stubs (type signatures only, no IL bodies -- the actual netstandard implementation comes from whatever runtime executes the code, here .NET Framework 4.8) totalling ~3 MB before compression. Microsoft. NETCore.Platforms is smaller still -- just a runtime.json RID-graph file used during restore, with no real assembly at all (its lib\netstandard1.0\ folder is NuGet's empty-placeholder convention). Neither package's content is ever copied into Bin\ or shipped in a built game; both are restore-time-only inputs. Contents (packages\) ---------------------- netstandard.library.2.0.0.7z MIT Reference-assembly contract for netstandard2.0 (~3 MB -> 1.4 MB) microsoft.netcore.platforms.1.1.0.7z Microsoft EULA RID-graph metadata only, no assembly (~22 KB -> 12 KB) License -------- NETStandard.Library is MIT-licensed (.NET Foundation and Contributors) -- see LICENSE-NETStandard.Library.txt. Microsoft.NETCore.Platforms ships under the older "MICROSOFT .NET LIBRARY" EULA, not an OSI license -- see LICENSE-Microsoft.NETCore.Platforms.txt. It explicitly designates itself "Distributable Code," and since it carries no assembly at all (restore-time metadata only), nothing from it ever reaches a built program in the first place. It's the same unmodified artifact Microsoft already redistributes to everyone via nuget.org.
